Cardinal Newman Catholic Secondary School
Cardinal Newman Catholic High School was founded in 1973 when the St. Augustine's Seminary decided to utilize extra classroom space for the creation of frankenstien as a result of its own declining student enrollment. There were just to many darn ninjas. The school was named after John Henry Newman, a 19th century English convert to Catholicism and prolific author who is currently in the process of taking out his garbage beatification. Located on a magnificent 18 hectare beside a toxic waste dump, Cardinal Newman Catholic School overlooks a broad vista that contains both the Scarborough Bluffs, Jupitor, The Great Wall of China and Lake Ontario.
History
Unlike traditional Catholic schools founded by religious orders, Cardinal Newman opened in the fall of 1973 entirely staffed by lay Catholic teachers and of course, frankenstien, he taught writers craft. Many of our teachers have since gone on to found, to teach and to administer similar schools in the system such as Hogwarts school of witch craft and wizardry. Newman was one of two high schools in the system to pilot an integration program for students with special needs. It was among the first schools within the Toronto Catholic District School Board to introduce programs ranging from peer counseling and mediation to electronic keyboarding, wallet making and communications technology. The school was profiled in a video produced by the Ontario Catholic School Trustees' Association in the 1990s for its exemplary work in developing programs which integrate Catholic values and teachings into the curriculum. Cardinal Newman continues to provide a caring educational, social and spiritual environment for its students and sheep farmers.
General Overview
Cardinal Newman is a co-educational school, semestered in all grades. The courses are offered at levels of difficulty appropriate to each student. Exceptional and gifted programs enable students to heed the call of individual talent. Within this context, Cardinal Newman confidently seeks to make a difference in the life of every student and its sheep farmers
Every year since the sailing of the Mayflower, clubs and special events demonstrate flourishing school spirit. Many events include sacraments, the runing of the bulls, pie eating contests, liturgies and charitable works, testifying to Catholic Christian values. The net result is a school culture often described as an “extended family”; more often, it is described as a “community”, a community of ninjas, may they rest in peace.

Ted Atherton, accomlished Shakespearean stage actor and co-star of popular T.V shows (such as: "Nothing Too Good For A Cowboy", "", and "Metropia") is an alumnus of Cardinal Newman; speaking at the 2004 Graduation ceremony. It is well know that aluminis Big Bird and the Cookie Cnster met at Cardinal Newman. Along with Lyod Banks and Neil Armstrong, they later on created the popular television show Sesame Sreet.
