Canadian Sunset "Canadian Sunset" is a popular song. An instrumental version by Hugo Winterhalter and the writer Eddie Heywood reached #2 on the Billboard chart in 1956. A version sung by Andy Williams was also popular that year, reaching #7 on the Billboard chart.
Emergence as a jazz standard The tune was covered by a number of jazz performers starting in the 1960's.
Wes Montgomery (guitar) did a nice small combo version with his signature two-stringed melodic phrasing
Danny Gatton (guitar) playing with Buddy Emmons (pedal steel) produced a funky version of the tune that fit appropriately with the "Redneck Jazz" sound they developed (jazz played on instruments normally relegated to country music)
George Shearing (piano) added an elegant orchestral arrangement behind his jazz quintet sound
Kenny Barron (piano) Trio
Gene Ammons (tenor saxophone)
Joe Settlemires
Cedar Walton made it funky in the 1976 album "Beyond Mobius"
and many more.
