Highways in Croatia


Highways in Croatia (also known as autoceste; singular: autocesta, ) are the main national road network in Croatia, consisting of high-speed highways. The national speed limit effective in case no other speed limits are present is . A highway is defined in Croatia as a road with at least three lanes in each direction (including hard shoulder), speed limit of not less than and marked with a special road sign. Highways are named A (autocesta) accompanied by one or two digits, while expressways operate on a similar scheme, but with letter B (brza cesta). State routes are named D (državna cesta) with one to three digits, while county routes always have the letter Ž (županijska cesta) and four digits. The lowest designation are local roads, marked with letter L (lokalna cesta) and five digits.
